This
interview was done in last days of November 1999. The last November of
this millenium. You will not find here many questions about music of
the band; my goal was to bring some light on the man behind Deutsch Nepal
- Lina B Doll. The same interview will appear on paper in the beginning
of 2000. Well, if the first seconds of Y2K bring us so long waited by
millions Armageddon from Bible then this web page is the only way to
read this interview before we actually meet in Hell.
How
is life there in Sweden? On what are you working right now? Are you ready
to meet Apocalypse this winter 1.1.00 at 00.01?
Life in
Sweden is pretty good but I would like to go somewhere else....the gras
is allways more green on the other side.. so to say...I go inside...
travelling to unknown corners of my brain... At this moment I work at
theCold Meat Industry Office doing the dirty work for Roger Karmanik.....
so it'snot much time for music and sounds..but I started to gain energy
for a new Deutsch Nepal album to be released on Cold Meat Industry. I'm
a walking Apocalypse myself so I'm allready prepared and start to getpretty
used to this way of living.... so no need to worry about the world apocalypse
I thought it was in 99.09.09 wich mean yesterday......hhmmm maybe it
allready happened??!!!
After
that short introduction let's start talking about music. Since you are
the only member of DN so I'd like to ask you about yourself. Your age,
education, job (if any), main interests. All those things people tell
about themselves at first meeting.
I'm 34 years
old and have been doing this kind of music for about 15 years...I have
no real education but thinking about studying Criminology..... My intrest
/ my work/ my freetime have become one as I?m working on the Cold Meat
Industry-office.... and as usual everything you work with is a pain in
theass..so I start to become bored with music....
You are
known as Lina B Doll, generalstab, etc. In fact I know people who think
that you, Lina, is a woman. Why do you use all these names and don't
use your real name Peter Andersson?
Who cares.....about
what gender one have? The more important is who you have sex with and
how much (hahaha). I say everyday and very much with everyone shouldbe
the law. Lina is a good name as everyone that I know call me this for
some reason....It's only the authorities and my familly that call me
Peter Andersson.
Well,
I began to talk about names so I'd like to ask you this question. You
and the guy from raison d'etre have the same name. Is that combination
of first and last names "Peter Andersson" is very common in
Sweden? Like in Russia "Ivan Petrov"...
Yes I guess
it's the most usual name you could have in Sweden.
You
have started DN around 1990. But I know that before that date you had
some projects (punk?). Could you tell me about those times before the
birth DN. And what was reaction of your relatives when they found that
their son don't want to work and play some noisy shit?
I was into
everything that was extreme from the very begining of my teenage years.
Punk also.. we had a band called "Farbrorn" (the Old Man, hahaha)
I started to do Deutsch Nepal as I was bored with the people I worked
with in a project called Njurmannen that played more like electronic-pop-industrial.
I wanted to do music only for my own pleasure and as Roger Karmanik heard
the recordings he wanted to release it. I decided to put a name on it
and took a title from an album with the old german krautrock band "Amon
Duul II".... Deutsch Nepal. My parents are harsh farmers on the
countryside they never cared so much about my doings and I doubt they
would understand it either....they?re just happy I'd have some kind of
succsess and that I can travel a lot something they never did but wanted
to do.
In your
interview you told that music of DN doesn't mean anything at all and
at the same time you say that music is the way you express yourself.
How does that can be that you express nothing, void?
The music
is like a fingerprint of mine that I put everywhere in the environment
.....could mean a lot to some if they find it... on the other hand it's
only my personal dustpin where I put all the crap I find hard to handle..or
just don't like.
Deutsch
Nepal is you main project or it have the same priority as other musical
projects?
Deutsch
Nepal was the main project before but now as also Frozen Faces, Janitor
and Bocksholm started to work as real projects they have the same priority....
You
just released Erosion and split with Der Blutharsh. What do you think
about your last works and do you think that Erosion can be called the
best album for DN?
My personal
favorites of Deutsch Nepal cds are "Benevolence" and "Tolerance".....the
split with Der Blutharsch was a co-operation and then you are suddenly
two persons that should coop with each other....then it become different.
The
music of DN is changing with every album. Do you know where you want
to lead this project or those changes appear spontaneously and you have
no clue where you'll be on your next album?
I do not
see the reason why to repeat myself and I only release albums if I have
something new to expose for the audience. Deutsch Nepal have kind of
a life of it's own I never know what will happen on the next release.
When
do you plan to release the new album of DN?
I think
there will be a new album comming next year....I just have to build up
my new studio and record some ...but to start with I will release the
last cassette of the Silence-triology on Old Europa Cafe called Behind
the Wall of Silence. I like the cassette format since it was the only
way to get industrial music in the early eighties.....wouldn?t say that
the label like the format as much (hahaha).
I know
that you have a project with Peter Andersson of RD called Bocksholm.
Could you tell to our readers about this project and the date it will
be released? How is it soundlike?
We wanted
to do a project to express all the hate we felt for the small village
where we both did grow up - Bocksholm. All the sounds we use is taken
from the environments there and the sound more like harsh ambient music
soon there will be a LP released on Entartete Musikk called "Radicon".
Please
tell me about your another project Frozen Faces. The concept of this
project, goals and news of course.
Frozen Faces
are more harsh sounding and started once as my equiptment did break down
as I was about to record some Deutsch Nepal material. It had a more technical
concept but now it?s more music from the gender parts of your body. Deutsch
Nepal is more music from the brain.
Do you
have / plan to create some other projects?
I hope not
as it start to be hard to keep them apart (hahaha)..but I started to
play live in Brighter Death Now and I hope to have the possibillity to
do this more times.
I know
you have a label. Could you tell me about it, it's releases and plans.
Why did you decided to start the label? Do you plan to have profit or
it's underground label?
Entartete
Musikk is an underground label that I have only for my own pleasure.....if
I make some money it's O.K. but it's not the main thing about it. At
first it was only to release my own projects but who knows what happens
in the future
Harsh
noise and power electronics are getting more and more attention from
the public and labels. What do you think about such music? And, in your
opinion, do we have a right to call power electronics as "music"?
Do youlike that notorious DCD Esthetics of Cruelty?
Some Power
Electronix like Genocide Organ and such that have some kind of structure
is very nice. But pure noise is something that make me bored as I heard
it for several years now......I thought it should disappear very fast
and a lot of people start to be bored with it here in western Europe....I
suppose the same thing will happen in your country after some years..
I dont think it's important if you want to call it music or not.... I'm
not even sure if you couldcall the sounds I make music either..... It's
just something that exist, a phenomena in our environment. The Esthetics
of Cruelty compilation is just a documentation of unknown swedish projects.
I like some of the projects but most of it just make me bored. I consider
myself as a very bored person.
Since
we began to talk about power electronics. Is that music popular in your
country? Do you have clubs or something? I ask cuz in my country this
kind of music isn't popular and most beople don't know even Whitehouse.
Actually we don't have even a metal club and the state usually prohibits
gigs. In fact two weeks ago in Minsk, the capital, police arrested all
guys with long hair in the center of the city, policemen made those guys
stay for long time at police office and took their fingertips, photos,
etc.
The intrest
for PE in Sweden is growing but that doesn't mean so much as weare a
very small people it mean that 5 years ago it was 50 persons and todayabout
100....in a country 2 or 3 times the size of Belarus it's hard to bring
people together for a club or even a party....which anyway happens once
or twice a year. Sweden is very liberal comparing with Belarus thinking
of what you telling me. Here you could allmost do anything or look anyway
you want as long as you have some kind of clothes on so that you don?t
embaress old ladies in the street - it's O.K.....
What
do know about Belarus, my country? And what do you think that NATO and
it's latest activities in Europe?
I do not
know that much about your country more than it has a capitol called Minsk
and that it's close to Sweden. When I was in childrenschool everything
East of Sweden was a big dangerous empire I suppose that children today
learn much more about Belarus than I did....I must say I do not like
NATO's way of being the world police I think that USA could mind their
own buisness and let others solve their problems themselves. All nations
with dignity must prove their right to exist.
